Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker player on the globe by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandpa taught Phil penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup whatever he possibly could about poker. Phil would tell his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the adverse feedback from other people annihilate his dream of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.
He began playing intently after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win was not a regular thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved two final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he destroyed a number of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to hard work and an eternal passion for the game of poker. Phil states that he’s learning every single day and is incredibly humble about his success. Phil knows he makes mistakes in each session of poker and always strives to improve.
Even though Ivey has won some big tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a normal basis.
