Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker contender on the globe by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His grandpa taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to learn every little thing he possibly could about poker. He routinely told his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He did not permit the adverse comments from other people destroy his ambition of becoming one of the best poker competitors on the planet.

He started competing seriously after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a learning period and coming away with a win was not a regular thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made 2 final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he destroyed many of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his success to discipline and an eternal passion for poker. Phil states that he is picking up skills every day and is incredibly abashed about his accomplishments. He admits to making mistakes in each session of poker and constantly aspires to improve.

Although Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a regular basis.
