Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker competitor on the globe by most of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching the age of one. His papa taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to discover everything he could about poker. Phil would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the adverse comments from other people destroy his goal of being one of the best poker competitors on the planet.
He began competing seriously after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a teaching experience and winning wasn’t a normal thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he made two final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he defeated a number of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an eternal passion for the game of poker. He states that he’s picking up skills every single day and is quite abashed about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes errors in each session of poker and always strives to improve.
Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a normal basis.
