Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker player in the world by most of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching turning 1. His grandfather showed him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to discover whatever he could about poker. Phil routinely told his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the detrimental feedback from others destroy his dream of being one of the best poker players in the world.

Phil began competing intently after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the casinos in Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a learning period and winning wasn’t a regular thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved two final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he defeated many of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his success to discipline and an eternal passion for the game of poker. He says that he’s picking up skills every day and is incredibly abashed about his success. Phil knows he makes errors every single session of poker and constantly aspires to improve.

Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a regular basis.
