Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker player on the globe by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to learn anything he could about the game. Phil would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the negative feedback from other people kill his goal of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.
Phil began competing seriously after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a learning period and coming away with a win was not a common thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he destroyed a number of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to hard work and a continuing passion for the game of poker. Phil says that he’s learning every single day and is incredibly humble about his achievements. Phil knows he makes mistakes in each game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Despite the fact that Phil has won some big tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a regular basis.
