Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker competitor on the planet by quite a few of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching turning one. His papa taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wished to pickup every little thing he could about the game. He routinely would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not allow the negative feedback from others annihilate his goal of becoming one of the strongest poker players on the planet.
He started competing intently after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a learning experience and coming away with a win was not a common outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made 2 final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he defeated many of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an undying passion for the game of poker. He says that he’s picking up skills every single day and is quite abashed about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes blunders in each session of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Even though Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a regular basis.
