Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker contender on the globe by many of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup whatever he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not permit the adverse feedback from others annihilate his goal of being one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.
He started playing intently after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and winning wasn’t a common outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved two final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he defeated a number of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and an eternal passion for the game of poker. He says that he is learning every single day and is very abashed about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes mistakes every single game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Although Ivey has won some large tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a regular basis.
