Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker contender on the planet by most of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to learn everything he possibly could about the game. He would tell his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the negative comments from other people annihilate his ambition of becoming one of the best poker players in the world.

He began competing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win was not a normal outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved two final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he destroyed many of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to hard work and an eternal passion for poker. Phil states that he’s learning every single day and is very abashed about his achievements. He admits to making blunders every single game of poker and constantly aspires to improve.

Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a regular basis.
