I have been playing poker now for about five years, I have played cards my entire life beginning with games of Gin Rummy for pennies with my Grand Mother, to all of the various types of Brag and basic random games such as Go Fish, Crash and one so eloquently called, card on head game. I used to often win, whatever game we were betting and although I liked to call it skill, it was extremely tough to justify considering the randomness of the games we were playing, so I was happy to accept I was having a long-term run of good fortune.

Then came Poker, or additional importantly Texas hold’em Poker, made popular by a bunch of Texas card gamblers in the 1960’s and since grown into one of the largest card phenomena ever seen. Poker is absolutely the new black, it truly is super awesome with a lot of of the world’s leading super stars racing to have their name connected with it. Just a quick scan through the TV channels nowadays and you can not escape from poker, and of course there’s the fabled WSOP, the Holy Grail and Mecca all rolled into one for each individual gambler.

So with all of this new found recognition, with so quite a few Tv shows devoted to poker, and magazine and book shelves filled up with high quality material written by the top minds on poker, when are people going to understand that this casino game is all about position!?

Perhaps I ought to not have so worked up about this, after all the more persons who have difficulty with the delicate tactics and methods required for succeeding consistently at Texas holdem, the much better it can be for everyone else, correct? I mean, if they can’t be bothered to read all of the obtainable facts about why position is so critical, why need to we bother? We really should just be happy there’s an additional fish at the table!

It is true, we should not reward procrastination with advice and support. However, I liken this to a welcoming casino game of football. Granted the stakes are not so great, except when you notice a player struggling, you guide them, provide them a number of advice, ultimately showing them a method to love, like and appreciate the game as much as you. I am calling on all home players to do a similar thing with their poker buddies who have not quite got a handle on the nuances of playing position. Support them to grow their respect for the game. Needless to say, do not attempt to try this one in your local gambling den, the sharks will not appreciate you instructing their meal how to swim!
