Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker contender on the globe by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wished to learn every little thing he could about the game. He routinely would tell his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He did not let the negative feedback from others destroy his ambition of being one of the best poker competitors in the world.

Phil started competing seriously after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial number of years for him were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a regular thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved two final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he defeated quite a few of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his success to discipline and a continuing love for the game of poker. He says that he is learning every day and is quite humble about his success. He knows he makes errors every single session of poker and always aspires to improve.

Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a regular basis.
