Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker contender in the world by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching turning 1. His papa showed him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wished to discover everything he could about poker. He routinely would tell his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He didn’t let the detrimental feedback from other people destroy his goal of becoming one of the strongest poker players on the planet.

Phil started competing seriously after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a teaching period and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he destroyed many of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his success to discipline and an undying passion for poker. He says that he’s picking up skills every single day and is very abashed about his accomplishments. Phil admits to making errors in each session of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Despite the fact that Phil has won some large tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a regular basis.
