Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker competitor in the world by most of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather showed him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to learn anything he possibly could about the game. He would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the adverse feedback from other people annihilate his goal of being one of the best poker players on the planet.

Phil began competing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a teaching period and coming away with a win was not a common outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he destroyed many of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to hard work and an undying love for the game of poker. Phil says that he is picking up skills every day and is quite abashed about his success. Phil admits to making mistakes every single session of poker and always strives to get better.

Even though Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he favors winning money games on a regular basis.
