Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker competitor on the globe by many of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather introduced him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to learn every little thing he could about poker. He routinely would tell his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the detrimental feedback from others destroy his goal of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.

He started playing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and winning was not a normal thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved two final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he defeated many of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and a continuing love for the game of poker. He says that he’s learning every day and is very abashed about his achievements. Phil admits to making errors in each session of poker and always aspires to improve.

Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he favors winning money games on a normal basis.
