Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker contender on the planet by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching the age of one. His papa showed him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup whatever he possibly could about poker. Phil would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not let the detrimental comments from others destroy his goal of being one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.
He started playing intently after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win was not a regular outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he destroyed a number of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and an eternal love for poker. He states that he’s learning every day and is incredibly humble about his achievements. He admits to making mistakes every single game of poker and always aspires to get better.
Although Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a regular basis.
