Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker contender on the globe by many of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching the age of one. His grandfather showed him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to discover every little thing he could about poker. He routinely told his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t permit the negative comments from other people destroy his goal of being one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.
He began playing intently after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for him were a learning period and coming away with a win was not a common outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved two final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he defeated a number of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and an eternal love for the game of poker. He says that he is learning every single day and is quite abashed about his accomplishments. He knows he makes blunders in each game of poker and always strives to get better.
Despite the fact that Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a normal basis.
