Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker player on the globe by quite a few of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa showed him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to learn every little thing he could about poker. Phil would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the detrimental comments from other people kill his dream of being one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.
Phil began playing intently after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a common outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to hard work and an immeasurable love for the game of poker. He says that he’s picking up skills every day and is very humble about his success. He admits to making blunders every single session of poker and always aspires to improve.
Although Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a normal basis.
