Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker contender on the globe by many of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to pickup every little thing he could about the game. He routinely told his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the adverse feedback from others destroy his goal of being one of the best poker players in the world.
He started competing intently after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first number of years for him were a learning period and winning was not a regular thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved two final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he destroyed a number of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an immeasurable love for the game of poker. He says that he is learning every single day and is very humble about his achievements. He knows he makes errors every single session of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a normal basis.
