Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker competitor in the world by quite a few of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa introduced him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to discover every little thing he possibly could about poker. He would tell his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn’t permit the detrimental comments from other people kill his dream of becoming one of the best poker competitors in the world.
Phil began playing intently after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a teaching experience and coming away with a win wasn’t a common thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved two final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he destroyed many of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and an undying love for the game of poker. He states that he is learning every day and is very humble about his accomplishments. He knows he makes errors every single session of poker and always strives to get better.
Even though Ivey has won some large tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a normal basis.
